President & CEO

John Sloan has more than three decades of C-level experience in investment banking, private equity and venture capital. He has been directly involved in transactions with an aggregate value of over $7 billion, and has played major roles in complex and high-profile financial transactions, both in the United States and internationally.

Sloan Capital is a boutique investment firm based in Dallas, Texas. It is involved in selling, buying and financing businesses on behalf of privately owned companies. Transactions involving family-owned businesses require special considerations, to achieve the goals of all family members.

Specialties include companies engaged in the oil field service sector, recreational boating, retailing, consumer products, telecom, construction and others. Companies in these sectors are typically involved in manufacturing, service or distribution functions.

Numerous financings have been completed with major international banks, public and private debt funds, private equity funds, high-net-worth individuals and family offices, on both a domestic and international basis. The relationships developed over years of successful transactions provide a broad universe of investors suited for the most demanding financial requirements.

Globalscope is an international network of 55 M&A investment banking firms, operating in 48 countries. With over 400 talented investment bankers, the network closed 3.3 billion euros in transactions in 2020. This network provides Sloan Capital direct access through its members to capital markets and investors on a global basis. Members meet in person on a semi-annual basis to review deal-making, best practices and investment banking services for cross-border transactions.

PRIOR ACTIVITIES

Allegiance Capital Corporation

Mr. Sloan formerly served as President/CEO of Allegiance Capital Corporation, a Dallas-based M&A investment banking firm. While with Allegiance, he personally led an initiative to grow the oil field service sector, which became a significant percentage of the firm’s total business.

The Thompson Company

Earlier in his career, Mr. Sloan also served as President/CEO of The Thompson Company, a private investment company owned by the founders of the convenience store chain, 7-Eleven. During his tenure with Thompson, he served as Senior Advisor to the founders during The Southland Corporation leveraged buyout, a $5.2 billion transaction.

In addition to his private equity and venture capital experience, Mr. Sloan has served on the board of directors for numerous public and privately held corporations, and is a graduate of the The University of Texas at Austin.

 Achievements

  • Raised more than $1 billion in debt and equity through an extensive private finance contact network

  • Evaluated, negotiated and financed the acquisition of more than 20 companies in energy, construction, retail, telecom, logistics and manufacturing

  • Built a specialty in developing and executing successful investment strategies for both private and public middle-market companies

  • Developed an expertise in managing all phases of private equity transaction

  • Built and oversaw multiple operating management teams

  • Gained extensive experience in directing the sale of large oilfield services companies

  • Closed more than $600 million in oilfield services transactions


  • Provided seed capital and raised more than $100 million in expansion funds for an early-stage specialty finance company

  • Raised $33 million to create the largest first-time venture capital fund in Texas

  • Led an investor group in the acquisition of East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc., the largest importer of high-grade teak in the United States
